Big news for Vics

Whitletts Victoria have narrowly rejected the proposal to change the name of Whitletts Victoria to reflect the clubs' status as Ayr's Junior Football Club.

Having initially agreed the proposal at the inaugural meeting of the newly constituted Club in July, members had a change of heart at the members meeting on Thursday night where the alternative names suggested were to be put before members.

Vice Chairman John Dalton said: "Since the initial decision was made, some members have clearly had a change of heart and believe that 68 years of history as Whitletts Victoria was more important than the potential commercial and promotional opportunities that may have been available in a name change to reflect that the Club comes from Ayr and is the town's only junior club."

"When football loses the romanticism and nostalgia then the game is much the poorer and the members have voted that way tonight. That decision has to be respected because at the end of the day, the members are Whitletts Victoria."

"This decision does not alter the fact that the Club comes from Ayr and we will continue to promote the Club as Ayr's junior club and work for the benefit of the community of Ayr."

Meanwhile striker Michael Fulton has signed from Ardrossan Winton Rovers.
