Match Report : Whitletts Vics v Cambuslang Rangers

WHITLETTS VICTORIA 0 - CAMBUSLANG RANGERS 0

Vics were held to a goalless draw by ten man Cambuslang Rangers at a blustery Dam Park.

Any chance of the game being a spectacle was ruined by the strong winds and although Vics had the better chances and most of the possession, they couldn’t turn it into goals.

The first real chance fell for Michael Reilly in the 8th minute when he got on the end of a free kick into the danger zone but he headed over from six yards.

Cambuslang then had a wee spell of pressure, forcing a series of corner which caused the Vics defence a few problems in the conditions with Stewart Davidson firing over his own crossbar from inside the six yard box. Callum McLean then tried to use the advantage of the wind from distance but his effort flew over the bar.

Whitletts thought they had taken the lead in the 29th minute when Louis Kerr ran past defenders onto a through ball and rounded the keeper to score only to be flagged offside!

A few minutes later Rangers keeper Kevin McAllister made the first of a series of fine saves to keep out a Louis Kerr free kick while on the counter attack Kris Gebbie saw his angled drive from the edge of the box slip wide.

Five minutes from the interval Davidson missed a great opportunity for Vics after the visitors defences struggled to clear a free kick into the box and with the goal at his mercy the midfielder’s shot on the turn went wide.

Reilly’s attempt from 25 yards flew over while at the other end Scott Johnson prevented Vics from falling behind with a fine save with his foot to keep out a Kris Gebbie drive.

Right on half time McAllister again denied Louis Kerr, parrying away the Vics midfielders free kick from 25 yards.

It was more of the same in the second period. Thomas Donovan’s low drive was saved by McAllister and in the 58th minute Vics had claims for a penalty waved aside as Davidson shot appeared to strike the arm of a Camby defender in the box.

Jordan Boyd then drove over the bar from distance and then the Vics striker was denied by McAllister at full stretch getting down to his post to push away Boyd’s netbound header.

In the 66th minute Cambuslang were reduced to ten men when Hal Bohme was shown a straight red card after kicking out at Paul Millar as he lay on the ground but Vics couldn’t take advantage of the extra man.

Scott McKean had a great chance for the visitors when he was set up in the area but he could only fire straight at Johnson while for Vics, from a Martin Findlay cross, Louis Kerr headed over from six yards.

McAllister then held a Ewart drive with both Boyd and Louis Kerr waiting to pounce while inside the last five minutes Callum Ogston had a couple of chances for the home side, a shot from 22 yards that had McAllister scrambling across his goal but moments later the keeper holding onto the midfielders shot from the edge of the box.

The final chance of the game fell to the visitors as Johnson once again denied Lafferty to leave both side having to settle for a share of the spoils
