BALFOUR EXTENDS VICS STAY

Whitletts Victoria have received a huge boost ahead of  Saturday’s last 16 Scottish Junior Cup clash with Yoker Athletic  at Dam Park with top goalscorer Tony Balfour signing a contract extension that will see him remain with Ayr’s Junior Football Club until 2019.

The 22 year old Vics striker has netted 24 goals for the Club in Whitletts current unbeaten 12 match run and had no hesitation in putting pen to paper to extend his stay with the Ayrshire District League leaders.

“I am really enjoying my football with Whitletts and believe that the Club has the potential and the ambition to play at the highest level of the junior game and I want to be part of that” said Tony. “I was already committed to the Club for next season but when the manager offered me the new contract to extend my stay I readily agreed and had no hesitation in signing it. I am enjoying playing football for the Club and I want to play my part in what I believe to be an exciting future for Whitletts Victoria”

Manager Steph McMillan was delighted that his top goalscorer wanted to stay at the Club and revealed that there has been a lot of interest in the Vics striker in recent weeks.

“Tony is a quality striker who enjoys scoring goals. He did it with Craigmark last season and he’s doing it again this season with Whitletts. There has been a lot of interest in him with a couple of top junior clubs’ and a senior club making enquiries about him in recent weeks but Tony is clear that he wants to stay at Whitletts and this contract extension proves that he is as committed to the Club as we are to him.”

“We are very fortunate to have two of the best strikers in junior football playing with the Club right now and they will both play a key part in our future plans and we are hoping that Mick O’Connor will also sign a new deal in the near future.”

Whitletts Victoria Chairman John Dalton expressed his delight at the signing and said that the Clubs’ ability to keep its’ key players is proof of their belief in the future of Whitletts Victoria.

“Off the park there has been a lot of very hard work going on to turn around the fortunes of the Club this season and our ability to keep our top goalscorer, despite interest from bigger clubs, is testament to the belief throughout the Club that we are going from strength to strength.”

“Steph McMillan has done a magnificent job in bringing together a talented squad that is playing entertaining football. Whilst our immediate aim is to gain promotion from the Ayrshire District League this season, which in itself will be a very difficult task in what is a very tight promotion race, our longer term ambition is to take Whitletts Victoria to compete at the highest level of the junior game.”

“By signing his contract extention, Tony Balfour has shown that he believes that he can achieve his footballing ambitions at the Club. He is a very talented young player who is enjoying his football and he will be a key player in our ambition to bring success to Whitletts Victoria in the years ahead.”
