New signings for Whitletts Vics

CALLAGHAN & KERR SIGN FOR VICS

Steph McMillan has continued the rebuilding at Whitletts Victoria by signing keeper Jordan Callaghan from Craigmark Burntonians and re-signing former Vics favourite Stevie Kerr from Ardrossan Winton Rovers.

Kerr left the Ayr club last season to follow former boss Jim Geddes to Winton Rovers but has bought out his contract with the North Ayrshire club and has agreed terms to return to Whitletts.

Meanwhile Jordan Callaghan has also agreed to join the Dam Park club after an impressive pre-season. The 20 year old keeper played under McMillan at Annbank and will provide stiff competition to recent signing Fraser Stewart for the keepers jersey after impressing in Vics two pre-season matches against Clark Drive and Greenock.

Vics boss McMillan welcomed both players to the Club and said that they will bring more than just their ability on the park to the Club.

“Stevie attended  for pre-season training and has proved to be a very popular player at the Club. He is a character and is the life and soul of the dressing room.”

“He’s also shown me that he is a talented footballer and is capable of playing in a variety of positions. I was happy to agree to give him training facilities for pre-season and I’ve been very impressed with his attitude and desire. He was desperate to rejoin Whitletts and I know he will give everything to help us achieve our goals. He has worked extremely hard to earn this move and his versatility will be a vital part in our promotion quest this season.”

“Jordan is a very good young keeper. He’s only just turned 20 but has already got loads of experience in junior football already with Annbank and Craigmark and has a very bright future ahead of him. He will provide serious competition to Fraser Stewart for the No1 jersey and that can only be good for both keepers and ultimately the club.”

Kerr, who played as a trialist in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Greenock was delighted to put pen to paper again to rejoin Whitletts and confirmed that his desire to rejoin the Club was such that he bought out his own contract with Ardrossan to return to Dam Park.
“I live in Ayr and was still in contact with a lot of the boys at Vics and kept hearing about all the good things that were happening with the Club. It is a club that is very close to my heart.”

“The boss gave me training facilities for pre-season while I searched for a new club. There were other options available to me but when I learned that Whitletts were interested in bringing me back it was a no brainer. Ardrossan wanted a transfer fee for me but I agreed to buy out my contract with them to make me a free agent.”
“This is a great club and I get the feeling that it could be a club that is going places. I want to be a part of that and I will give everything to help it achieve its’ ambitions”

Jordan Callaghan also expressed his delight to join the Dam Park club and after impressing pre-season, vowed to compete for the keeper’s jersey.

“I’m delighted to join Whitletts. There is such a positive feeling around the Club and I happy to be part of it. But I’m not here just to make up the numbers. Having Fraser (Stewart) at the Club will ensure that I develop as a goalkeeper but I’m also here to push him and compete for the No1 shirt.”
Whitletts have also confirmed the re-signing of young full back Connor Simpson for the new campaign. The former Annbank youngster played the latter end of last season for Vics after moving from Maybole and the 20 year old has now agreed to extend his stay with the Ayr based club.

WHITLETTS VICTORIA SIGN MARTIN LAWRIE

Whitletts Victoria are delighted to announce the signing of defender Martin Lawrie who spent last season playing in the Superleague First Division with South Ayrshire rivals Maybole.
The capture of the experienced left back brings the total number of new faces at the Dam Park club to SIX so far this close season following the capture of Fraser Stewart, Raymond Buchanan, Shaun Allan, Michael O’Connor and Tony Balfour, with boss Steph McMillan looking to add a couple of more new faces to the squad before the season kick off with the Ardagh Cup on 5th August, when Lawrie will make his competitive debut against his former club.

Boss McMillan said “Martin is a solid and talented defender who is strong in the tackle. He is a very good left back and that was a problem area for me that I wanted to address and Martin ticks all those boxes. He knows the junior game very well and I’m sure he will be a major asset for us in the months ahead as we look to bounce back from the disappointment of last season.”

Martin himself was delighted to sign up for the Ayr club and is looking forward to the new challenges ahead.

“I’m delighted to sign for Whitletts. I played against them last season and they have some very good players and the manager has added to that over the summer. It will be a difficult challenge to bounce back up to the Superleague at the first attempt with a lot of good sides looking to grab one of the two promotion places but I believe this squad is more than capable of meeting those challenges in the months ahead.”
