Former Dons keeper joins Vics

Former Aberdeen and Ayr United keeper, Fraser Stewart, has put pen to paper to sign a two year deal with Ayr’s junior football team, Whitletts Victoria.

Stewart, the son of former Rangers and Scotland goalkeeper Jim Stewart, helped Kilwinning Rangers to the Ayrshire District League title last season and is looking to achieve a personal 'double' with Whitletts in the forthcoming league campaign.

Manager Steph McMillan was delighted to get his man, who had also attracted the interest of a number of other clubs.
"Fraser is a quality goalkeeper and I am delighted that he has agreed to join Whitletts. It was important that we get an experienced goalkeeper in to help us in our promotion drive this season. The position of goalkeeper is arguably the most important in the entire team. A good keeper will give confidence to the players in front of him and Fraser will provide that. He has a presence about him and is strong and very agile."
"I believe that every team needs a strong backbone to be successful and with the other signings we’ve made this summer, Fraser completes that spine."

Fraser Stewart, who is also the Head of Youth Goalkeeping at the Ayr United Football Academy, was delighted to agree a deal with the Dam Park club and revealed that there was plenty of interest in him from elsewhere.
"I had spoken to a few clubs and a Central based Premier Division club were keen to see me in action but having trained with the lads at Whitletts pre-season there is a camaraderie amongst the players that you don’t experience at a lot of clubs and a desire to succeed and that made my decision easier to make."
"I hope that I can repay the faith that the manager has shown in me and with the squad that he has assembled, I’m confident that we could be in for a good season in the months ahead."

Meanwhile Vics appearance in Glenafton's annual Joe Meldrum Trophy this weekend has been cancelled due to the work being undertaken on the New Cumnock sides Loch Park pitch.
Vics first pre-season match will be at Dam Park next Saturday, 27th July, when they take on Superleague First Division side Greenock. Kick off 2pm
