William Hill Scottish Cup Details

The SFA have announced the 36 clubs that will take part in the First Round of this season’s William Hill Scottish Cup on Saturday, September 14. The Highlands will be represented by 16 clubs, with Highland League Champions Cove Rangers and runners-up Formartine United exempt from this stage.

South League Champions Dalbeattie Star and East League winners Whitehill Welfare will also enter in Round Two with 17 places allocated to clubs in the newly created Lowland League as well as South and East of Scotland set-ups as well and Girvan Juniors who also hold SFA membership.

Only three spaces were allocated to Junior sides as a result of Auchinleck Talbot being both League Champions and Scottish Junior Cup holders.

The teams competing are Brora Rangers, Buckie Thistle, Clachnacuddin, Deveronvale, Forres Mechanics, Fort William, Fraserburgh, Golspie Sutherland, Huntly, Inverurie Loco Works, Keith, Lossiemouth, Nairn County, Rothes, Turriff United, Wick Academy, Burntisland Shipyard, Civil Service Strollers, Coldstream, Edinburgh City, Edinburgh University, Gala Fairydean, Girvan, Glasgow University, Hawick Royal Albert, Newton Stewart, Preston Athletic, Selkirk, Spartans, St Cuthbert Wanderers, Threave Rovers, Vale of Leithen, Wigtown & Bladnoch, Linlithgow Rose, Culter and Auchinleck Talbot.

A date for the first round draw has still to be advised.

Maguire swaps Peterhead for Cumnock

Former Airdrie, East Stirling and Peterhead striker Stephen Maguire has swapped the Third Division for the junior ranks on a permanent basis after signing for Cumnock.

The 26 year old front man was recruited to the Blue Toon 18 months ago by his former boss at the Shire, Jim McInally, however he ended up on loan at Shotts Bon Accord after a change in working circumstances made it difficult for Maguire to travel to training.

He was released by the Balmoor men at the end of the season and has now agreed to join up with the Ayrshire side.

Meechan heads for the Rose

Former Motherwell midfielder Steven Meechan has ended his pre-season training period with Third Division Albion Rovers and headed for junior side Linlithgow Rose.

Meechan made 4 top team appearances during his two years at Fir Park and he had a loan spell with the Coatbridge side in 2010 before heading for England the following year.

After a season playing at Kettering Town Meechan joined junior side Kirkintilloch Rob Roy last August and his form there led to an opportunity to become a Rover however he has now headed for Prestonfield.
