Wardlaw heads for Hill o' Beath

Striker Gareth Wardlaw who scored the goal that ensured St Mirren avoided relegation from the SPL in May 2011 has signed for junior side Hill of Beath Hawthorn.

The 34-year-old was in the senior ranks since 2004 when he joined Ayr United amateur side Burntisland Shipyard. After over 100 appearances for the Somerset Park club, he joined Raith Rovers and he helped them lift the Second Division title in 2009.

Wardlaw then joined Cowdenbeath where he scored 19 times as Danny Lennon’s side won promotion to the First Division and Lennon took the striker to Paisley when he became St. Mirren manager in 2010.

After a season in the SPL Wardlaw returned to Ayr and he scored 3 times in 14 starts before moving to East Fife a year ago and after a lengthy illness he featured in three of their four play-off games that saw them avoid relegation.

Arthurlie bring in Smith and Murray

Former Motherwell striker Gary Smith who played for the Fir Park men in the Europa League in 2010 against Icelandic side Breidablik has joined junior side Arthurlie. The six foot two inch 22 year old front man also had loan spells at Dumbarton and Stenhousemuir before playing for Shettleston last season.

Smith will be joined at Dunterlie Park by former Queen’s Park and Annan Athletic winger David Murray who was part of the Galabank side that won 2-1at Ibrox and Rangers back in March.

Glenafton keep hold of Robertson

Striker Ross Robertson has left Ayr United to sign for local junior side Glenafton. The 22 year old, who scored 4 times for the Honest Men during his 4 years at Somerset Park where he featured mostly as a substitute, is already well known to the New Cumnock side.

Robertson has been on loan to them since January and has scored 6 goals in 16 appearances with Glens manager Darren Henderson said: “We are delighted to sign Ross as he played a key role in us finishing fourth in the Premier league and winning the West of Scotland Cup.”
